How to Rock a Fun & Successful Sustainable Fashion Podcast
Updated: Nov 2
Picture this: you're the proud owner of a sustainable fashion brand. You've got eco-friendly, upcycled materials and a passion for saving the planet through your designs. Your friends love your work, and you've built a small but loyal customer base. But how do you take your brand to the next level? The answer might just be... a podcast! 🎙️
We talked to Paula Lourenço from Portugal, a professional podcast coach, and got some golden tips for launching a podcast that will make waves in the sustainable fashion world. Ready? Let’s dive in!
Know Your Audience 👂 Speak their language! It’s crucial to address the questions your listeners are dying to have answered. Learn to listen to your audience and give them the content they crave.
Sound Matters 🎧 You don’t need a fancy recording studio with pro mics (though that would be nice). For around €20-30, you can get portable microphones that offer decent quality. Your audience will thank you when they don't have to struggle to hear you over background noise!
Pause for Effect 🛑 Pauses are like the breath of a good conversation. Don’t feel pressured to talk non-stop. Take a break between greetings, intros, and questions—it’ll help keep things interesting and easy on the ears.
Breathe Deeply 🧘♀️ Before you hit "record," take a few deep breaths using your diaphragm (thank your yoga instructor later!). It’ll help you keep your voice steady and avoid running out of breath during long talks. Bonus tip: remind your guest to do the same!
Smile, Even Off-Camera 😄 Believe it or not, people can hear a smile in your voice, even when there’s no video. So, smile away!
Gesture, But Keep It Chill ✋ If you're recording video, gestures can really bring the conversation to life. Just don’t go overboard and knock over your mic! 😆
Ditch the Noisy Jewelry 💍 Earrings that jingle, bracelets that clink—these are sound-quality nightmares! Keep it simple and silent when recording.
Soft Materials Only 👗 Choose clothing that doesn’t rustle or make noise. Your podcast should be about your words, not the sound of your outfit brushing the mic.
Think About Your Background 🖼️ For video podcasts, choose a background and outfit that complement each other. Black background? Try cream or soft colors. White background? Darker colors like petrol blue will make you pop!
Avoid Bright White 🧛♀️ Super white clothes can wash you out on camera, leaving you looking more Dracula than fashionista. Opt for soft shades that flatter!
Red, Blue, Green—Keep It Solid 🌈 Stick to solid colors without busy patterns. Bold but classic hues like red, blue, or green can make you stand out, without overwhelming the viewer.
Makeup Magic 💄 A little powder goes a long way. Even the healthiest skin can look shiny under studio lights, so keep that in check to avoid looking too sweaty.
Show Off Gracefully 👜 When you’re highlighting clothes or accessories, think about how the audience sees them. Move slowly, be intentional, and ensure every detail gets its moment in the spotlight.
The Shoe Trick 👠 Heading to a TV interview? Buy your shoes between 1-3 PM, when your feet are naturally a bit swollen. If the shoes are comfy then, they’ll be comfy on camera. Also, steer clear of tight stilettos—your toes will thank you!
Chair and Table Setup 🪑 Make sure the table and chairs are at a comfortable height. You don’t want to be hunching over or towering above your guests. You should all feel relaxed and natural, without elbows on the table or noses in your notes.
With these tips, your sustainable fashion podcast will be both fun and professional—just like your brand! Ready to press record? 🎬
